In February 2002, we collected our first Timpany
Memorial Love Offering.
About 15 people and churches took part and $1500 was raised for capital
projects in Nigeria, Cameroon and Kenya. We trust this special love
offering will grow each year as we use such funds to provide tools
for our workers.

Paul Timpany, son of Donald Timpany (a well known and loved Baptist
pastor) and relative of A.V. Timpany (Canada's first Baptist missionary—he
went to India in the 1800s), was a graduate of McMaster Divinity
College. Together with his wife, Isabel, he began pastoring various
Baptist churches in Ontario in the early 1960s. They were long-term
pastors in the Hailerbury and Sudbury areas of Northern Ontario,
but in the early 1990s, they left Canada to become missionaries
to Nigeria. They ministered in the Jos and Port Harcourt areas.
Later,
their
daughter developed health problems forcing them to return to
Sudbury, where Paul then pastored two Congregational Churches.
Paul went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2001. He had a great
love for God, for people, for world evangelism and missions. He
served as the first chairperson of Into All The World and
despite health
problems, sought to travel to Nigeria for six weeks each year to
continue training the pastors, strengthening the churches and sharing
the love of Christ.
In loving memory of Paul, the Timpany Trust was
established to assist research and strategic outreach in West Africa,
namely Nigeria. Over $19,000 has been donated to the fund so far
and money
has been used to finance a village well in Karasude, on the Nigeria/Cameroon
border. IATW has decided to establish the Timpany Memorial
Love Offering to be collected each year in February
with the specific aim of financing
capital developments. This year, we have identified four needy
projects that this special offering will be used for:
- Nigeria: One of the churches started a building
10 years ago and has been praying for a roof for 6 years. We want
to stand
with
them in this project and encourage them. They are trying
to raise $500
of the $2000 cost on their own; we are seeking to provide
the rest.
- Cameroon: Christ's Ministry Outreach Mission,
directed by David Olatunde, is sending two new workers to Cameroon.
They
were trained there at
a new bible college which requires more buildings for student
residences, a library and classrooms. David, an engineer,
is overseeing this
project. He was first introduced to us through Paul, who
met him at Hailerbury where David was studying at their School
of Mines.
We are seeking to raise $10,000 for these capital developments.
July 2002, we sent $500 to begin the work.
- Kenya: We are supporting Leigh Ross in her
calling to open a new HIV positive orphanage called Arms Of Love.
There
are numerous
needs such as cribs, highchairs, dishes and other furniture
and equipment.
We are seeking to raise $10,000 for these start-up costs.
- India: Village Evangelization of India is a
church Paul introduced IATW to in 1982. They want to expand their
school from grade
10 to 12 and need two new classrooms and a playground.
This will cost
close
to $20,000.
Please prayerfully consider making this once-a-year
love offering for capital development, one key to
unlocking the door for
Gospel Advance. See the Capital
Project Offering (PDF) for more information.
