GENE and JANICE WEATHERBY

Gene and Janice Weatherby work in South Africa amongst the XHOSA people.

Gene and Janice WeatherbyThe past two years Gene and Janice have been learning the XHOSA language as well as building relationships with the local people.

They are located in South East South Africa between Port Elizabeth and East London. They live in a rural community where many villages have no roads. In early 2005 they were able to purchase two horses to assist them in visiting the various villages.

One of their most successful projects is introducing wire mesh pens for baby chicks. This saves the baby birds from marauding hawks and birds of prey. They have taught some young men how to build these cages and they now have a small business established.

They tell us there is much work to be done. In the future there will be opportunities for short term teams to visit them and be of assistance in various ways.

Lucas KetiThey are partnering with an African named Lucas Keti. Lucas who has set up an NGO called FOCUS to minister to the needs of the people. Lucas earns his living by inoculating cattle with medical shots to keep them in good health. As the cattle are “wealth” to these people they greatly appreciate the improved health.
