About 700,000 people live in this hot, dry, desert enclave. At one
time a colony of France, its economic stability is tied to French
foreign aid and the large military base.
We have no workers in the area, but we do have an interest and
concern for the peoples of this land. Three groups — Somali
at 62% of population, Afar at 25% and Arabs at 6% (other – 4%).
We have opportunities for people who are interested in working in
a “reading room” situation, teaching English as a second
language.
Short term opportunities are available for veterinarians and medical
people, especially those with experience in camel care. The wealth
of the Afar is in their herds of camels, cattle and goats. We would
like to bless them with teams of visiting veterinarians to improve
the health of their animals. The other great need is water.

We have some engineers working on a water development project that
needs funding and other technical assistance. If you can help in
either of these areas please be in touch.
